A Four-Year High School Programme in English, offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum
ISC has made a commitment to grow and develop the school organically all the way through High School by offering the completion of the Middle Years Programme, MYP 4&5 (aged 14-16) from 2016-2018 and completing the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) by 2020 for students aged 16 to 18 years.
At ISC, our team of IB trained educators and administrators work together to offer a rich academic curriculum taught in English so students fulfil individual interests and potential. Everything is designed to provide a seamless opportunity for all students to acquire the knowledge, skills and attributes essential for successful entry into tertiary education, to follow a chosen career path, and to become productive global citizens.
“It encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional as well as the physical well-being of students”. source IB documents
MYP 4&5 CURRICULUM/SUBJECTS
The MYP 4&5 are the first 2 years of high school and have eight subject areas each with their own prescribed aims and objectives. Students study the disciplines within all these areas for all four years of the programme. (All course work is in English).
Language and Literature : English A and/or Italian A
Language Acquisition: Italian B or Spanish B or German B
Individuals and Societies: History or Geography
Sciences: Biology, Physics, Chemistry
Arts: Visual Arts plus Drama or Music
Physical and Health Education
Design : Digital Design and Product Design
The MYP 4&5 is enriched with the following adjustments:
- specialism in one of the two Individuals and societies subjects (History or Geography)
- specialism in one of the performing arts (Drama or music);
- the introduction of a digital design course (computer technology) in place of product design;
- the accomplishment of a Personal Project
- increased frequency of testing and academic tracking;
After MYP 4&5, the student enters into the IB Diploma (the last 2 years of high school) which requires students to study a minimum of six subjects, from the Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and the Arts.
The IB Diploma Programme (for students aged 16 to 18) is the gold standard amongst university entrance qualifications worldwide. http://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/ IB graduates are offered direct entrance into universities in the UK (and elsewhere) without the need to sit additional admissions tests, in many cases.
It is a rigorous, academic pre-university programme, which is recognized by governments and universities across the globe. In Italy it provides the legal equivalence of the Italian maturita’ / esame di stato
As it is a challenging programme with externally assessed examinations, admission is based on a student’s school record (and admissions tests for external candidates).
This range of subjects enables students to study potentially any discipline at the university level (depending on their Higher Level subjects). Three of the subjects are studied at the Higher Level, and students obtain greater depth in these choices.
Prior to being accepted to the ISC IB Programme, students are assessed for admission. In order to apply for High School we recommend students have strong academic record and a solid command of written and spoken English.
Campus Development In the school years 2016-2018 we will open the MYP4 and the MYP5 classes in the new wing of the ISC premises. However, in order to accommodate a four-year high school, ISC’s campus will be extended over the course of the next 30 months, in order to provide additional Diploma Programme classrooms, a dedicated library, extra science labs and study spaces.
We offer two full scholarships for the entire course of High School to internationally-minded students with an outstanding academic profile.
The ISC scholarships are awarded to young people of high aspirations, talents and accomplishments for a minimum period of two years.
An ISC scholarship student is expected to:
- be highly talented and academically ambitious
- be very keen to participate fully in the life of the school
- be an exemplary role model for both peers and younger students
Who can apply?
- Students of all nationalities may apply for an ISC scholarship.
- Students must have an outstanding academic record.
- A strong command of written and spoken English is essential.
We advise scheduling an appointment with the Principal to learn more and explore the Admission possibilities.
WHY High School at ISC ?
The key advantage to taking the IB programmes at ISC is the extensive individual support, guidance and counseling that we are able to provide. This aspect of care becomes ever more important as choices made by students during their high school years,and their academic performance, will have a significant impact on their university and career pathways.
There are numerous and varied opportunities for students to learn and become involved outside of the classroom including- regular collaborative projects with other international schools in the region in the fields of global citizenship, sports, performing arts, as well as the possibility to go on expeditions and trips together.
We will offer at least two subjects in each of the IB Diploma Programme groups as indicated in the table below, ensuring that students can choose the most appropriate package according to their personal strengths and interests.
