Early Years Curriculum
Our innovative Early Years programme in Como provides a comprehensive, effective and flexible education suitable for all learning styles, which is ideal for young pupils at the beginning of their academic journey.
Reggio-Emilia Inspired Philosophy
The Early Years programme at our kindergarten in Fino Mornasco adopts an inquiry-based learning approach designed to cultivate children’s curiosity, motivation, critical thinking, and relational skills. Supported by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, our caring and experienced teachers are dedicated to unlocking each child’s potential. This child-centred approach empowers students to become autonomous, proactive learners, fostering self-awareness and encouraging the exploration of new interests, passions, and talents.
IB PYP for the Early Years
From the age of 3, our Early Learning programme in Como follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) framework, conducted entirely in English. The PYP encourages children to actively engage in their learning through transdisciplinary exploration of subjects, concepts, and problem-solving within small group settings led by their teachers. This approach ensures a seamless transition to Elementary School in Year 2.
Play-based Approach
Children learn best through play, which is why our Early Years programme incorporates a play-based approach. Central to this is the belief that while children may not have mastered a skill or concept at present, they have the potential to do so in the future. This approach emphasises learning through active, engaging, and enjoyable play experiences, recognising that mastery of skills and knowledge is a gradual and ongoing journey. Ultimately, this approach leads to enhanced learning outcomes across subjects.
Specialist Classes
From Kindergarten through to Grade 1, children at ISC enjoy diverse learning opportunities that extend beyond academics, using engaging materials and resources. Our curriculum places a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy, ensuring children become familiar with written words and numbers from an early age. In addition to these core elements, our specialised subjects and activities include research-based learning, daily discovery time, music, visual arts, guided reading, library sessions, movement enrichment, and group assemblies.
